There is only one Holy Spirit, and He will make His desires and plans known to those who are listening (1 Cor 2:10).  I was independently approached a few Thursdays ago by two students from my Bible study requesting to meet for corporate prayer. Our ministry already has a corporate prayer meetings on Monday evenings, but this was different. They wanted to pray for divine insight and then immediately go and search for students to minister to at UCLA. The LORD had dropped the same idea into my Spirit Just that morning and I was excited they were being Spirit-led and taking the initiative for evangelism. Never underestimate the power of corporately prayer and declaring God’s will!

Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven           -Matthew 18:18-19 NIV

Every thursday I lead the charge to pour into students who are on their way to class and invite them to our service on campus. I encouraged those two and a few others to join me in prayer and worship beforehand and help with the outreach. I specifically remembered praying for two salvations that day. The following week, two people we had met during that outreach attended our service and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. One of them was Alex, a student from China who I had the opportunity to personally lead in the sinner’s prayer.

Revival Service and Bagel Giveaway      The following week was our two day revival service in the center of campus. We gave away free bagels and coffee one of the morning to promote the event. During the alter call, I was able to pray with four students to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, as exemplified in Act 2:4. Three of them were international (China, Japan, and Brazil), including Alex who had just recently became a Christian!

The future global ramifications of this ministry is humbling and awe-inspiring. As I reflect on what God is doing in the lives of these students, I remember a quote from Xi Jinping, who became China’s new President in March. Jinping spent a short period of time in Iowa when he was in his early 30’s. His experience impacted him so much that he insisted on returning to that small town to rekindle memories with his American friends during his visit to the United States last year. You can’t even imagine what a deep impression I had from my visit 27 years ago to Muscatine, because you were the first group of Americans that I came into contact with. My impression of the country came from you. For me, you are America, Jinping shared during his visit. Think of the implications of Christianity in China if he had gotten involved with XAi, our outreach to internationals. So many times on campus, I learn that we are the first American friends they make.

Joe and I

Just this weekend, some of us reconnected with Joe, a Chinese scholar who had researched at UCLA a few years prior. Flying from Mexico back to China, Joe had a layover in Los Angeles and wanted to reconnect with his American family, that being Chi Alpha.

Over dinner, he said I may not  remember my classes or where I lived, but I will always remember the URC (the building we have service in), I will always remember Chi Alpha.Joe become a Christian through our ministry back then. Joe was around the same age as Jinping was when he first visited Iowa. Joe’s visit will follow him for the rest of his life… and into eternity.

Earlier this quarter, another Chinese student named Eric shared at our church service just two days before returning home to China. He went on to say because of the life you gave to me, from you I know how to offer, how to give, and how to be a good person, and what kind of person, what kind of future I want. I changed from a non-Christian family to a Christian with the support from my mother. This is the greatest decision I have made in my life,  Be sure to watch his powerful testimony in my post below (or click HERE)!

We are truly changing the world together. What excites me the most is that God is just getting started and even greater stories are to come! Thank you for your prayers and thank you for your partnership, these stories are your stories.
